Bumper Plates

Bumper plates are Olympic sized weights that usually feature a steel core that is coated with a shock absorbent materials. Most bumper plates feature a thick rubber coating and some brands utilize urethane instead. Bumper plates are used for exercises that require bouncing and dropping weights. Popular exercises include deadlifts, and Olympic lifts. Due to the rubber coating, they will be able to bounce once they hit the floor and will not crack, damage the structural integrity of the plate, or damage your floor (as opposed to dropping iron plates).

Reputable brands each determine the formula from steel to rubber in each plate and determine the types of rubber and cores that will be used. Some brands use recycled rubber while others use virgin rubber.
